National Park has been deliberately shot at with a bow and arrow and hours later when that hadn't killed him he was shot and killed by an American dentist. The killing itself is bad enough but the repercussions for Cecil's offspring are dire.

I find it strange that game rangers, guides, wild life film makers etc etc are frowned upon if they terminate a wild animals life, no matter how cruel and harsh the circumstances - that the way it is in the bush, let nature take it's course etc, etc. Yet a hunter can pay a shedload of money to kill for a trophy and interfere with the status quo in an area and, in this...

DB, I was just interjecting a little humor into what is not really a humorous situation. If he was a killer of stones (stone-killer) and not animals for the mere thrill of it, everyone would be quite happy. And I know exactly what euphemisms are and how the are used and misused. I think that we both agree that this individual, and those of his ilk, are to be abhorred.
Doh!

In my haste, I forgot to paste the post I'd copied. stuey, looks like you found it off your own bat but, for anyone else's convenience…

I'm sure that Monty Python could have developed a hilarious script regarding stone-killers.

DB, very soon I'm going to traipse across the field to my favorite watering-hole, and I'll raise a glass to Cecil and you...Cheers.

Bit more news from Sky this morning that there is a group of people where he lives calling for him to be extradited to Zimbabwe to face the authorities there. I suppose he will then pay off Mugabe!
Such a shame for the beautiful lion. His killing sickens me.

Don't remember too much fuss made when top Australian cricketer went to South Africa simply to kill wildlife.

To add to all this shooting sir.prize, you are now doing it in your foot! you write "Don't remember too much fuss made when top Australian cricketer went to South Africa simply to kill wildlife." and then give links to masses of coverage condemning it.
Khandro - i was referring to the lack of comments on Answerbank.

Dr Walter Palmer has attracted over 130 posts whereas cricketer Glenn Mcgrath attracted none.

SirP, wow, I don't remember seeing that at all. No idea why it wasn't mentioned on here. I would have hated it had I read it at the time but not sure whether I would have started a thread about it. Perhaps it is the illegality of this latest incident and the snide way Cecil was lured out of his protected area that captured peoples imagination. Pleased to see that McGrath has seen the error of his ways. I hope he's stuck to that.

Tony thank you for posting Sir Roger Moore's article it's the best one I've read and I shall sign the PETA petition - hope you did. I think he's spot on, good on the old boy.
Yes ladybirder, spot on.
And yes I have signed the PETA petition.
According to a local newspaper, the USFWS is now getting involved; however, I don't think that they would have any jurisdiction over something that happened in Africa. Anyway, more pressure on the intrepid hunter...Good: http://www.startribune.com/u-s-now-investigating-cecil-s-killing-is-looking-for-twin-cities-dentist/320076361/
Look at those sickening grins on their faces!!
I know, stuey.
The dentist isn`t the only guilty party. I know that people like him fuel the market for the hunting of animals in certain parts of the world but the people in Zimbabwe who facilitated it are also guilty and that includes the government which allows rich foreigners to come and shoot animals whose numbers are diminishing.
