Fun Size ?...grrrrr !

I have just returned from Lidl. I saw small bananas and small pears labeled
"Fun Size"

When did the perfectly adequate term "small" fall out of fashion ?

And exactly what is fun about being a small fruit ? Does it mean that normal sized fruit isn't fun ?

Why can't we use plain English for goodness sake !

It sounds like the term has been applied to make the fruit more appealing to kids which is better for them than fun sized chocolate bars etc.

On a similar theme, my grandfather always used to complain about Barnacles chip shop who did 'Pensioner's portions' as being distinct from an 'adult' serving.
