The incident happened in 2012. One of the men, convicted of the actual crime got 10 months, the other got 6 for providing a false alibi for his companion.
Do these sentences send out a proper message about the consequences of cruelty to animals?

I won't provide a link to this as there are distressing images with the text of this story.

I'm not sure sandy, I think it will take a lot more than a 10 month sentence to stop such cruelty and let's face it, he won't serve the full 10. I wish there were much stiffer sentences for such cruelty. Poor dog.
No, if people are so inhumane that they are prepared to do this to an animals they have a generally dodgy moral compass and imho would have little compunction in moving on to a person, probably a vulnerable person at that. Give them the maximum sentence possible which although still not enough might be a deterrent to other mindless thugs deciding to act in the same way.

They seem to have been carrying an inflammable liquid with them in the early hours of the dawn after an all night party. You'd wonder what was on their mind before they encountered the unfortunate dog.
No, because people doing this are not human and have no intelligence.
So they just came across a dog at random? I thought it was their own dog .....

No, it was a much loved family pet. The owners were interviewed on TV just after the incident and you could see how upset they were.
Then I can't understand why a much loved family pet was out alone in the early hours ....

Whatever the reason was that the dog was out, it didn't deserve to be burnt alive.
i dont get how anyone could do this, its horrible. some kids around here tied a firework to a cats tail, they want to hope they never ever come near murph...
I know it didn't sandy, did I say it did !! I have a dog and there is no way he would be roaming around alone in the early hours of the morning, too many thugs out there, as was proved by this poor dog's treatment.
Personally, I think they should be hung by their thumbs in a public place somewhere. I would willingly provide the strong nylon cord that would be needed. Ditto a stepladder.
Personally mickey, I'd set fire to them !
10 years would be more appropriate
I am sure that the public walking by could think of plenty of things to do to them chaptazbru2.

Stories like these make me white with rage.
Use their nuts Mikey - better than their thumbs.
Well, I was think that if they were suspended by their thumbs, the public could have their choice of things to tweak !
Banned for 30 years from owning pets too - should be life.
The punishment should fit the the crime, set fire to them !
personally I would like to put them both up against a wall and shoot them, I could cheerfully do that, the sentence is not long enough by any means, whats to stop them doing it again ? I hope they have a bad time in prison, I really do.
