What happened to double egg yolks, can you still buy them? Had 2 soft boiled eggs for lunch and there was hardly any yolk in them, (please don't say that's no yolk!) even though they were large ones.

We buy then from the local farms when we see them, our own chickens used to lay them.

Here is a stupid question, until you crack an egg how can you tell that it is double yolked.. ?

Thanks for that info kvalidir. I shop at Tesco and have never seen them in there, so will pop into Asda next time I need eggs.

It used to be called 'candling' as they used a candle instead of a bulb.

If the store stocks them,it will say on the box.

thanks mammy I will look out for them. I know that when you buy large eggs the yolk is smaller and you get more white which is fine for making meringues

guilliebrougues, Like Mamyalynne says, they used to candle them, these days its done with a powerful candling lamp.

Mamyalynne that video made me laugh. I can't believe how excited they were to find there was a double yolk.Really can't see me going round with one of those, can you imagine the looks you would get off fellow shoppers, especially if you got so excited about it. :-)
