It's that time of year and the birds are looking for nesting boxes. My resident blue tits have been duffing up the chaffinches in their squabble over the nest boxes.

Can I just urge those of you who do not have nest boxes in your garden, to put one up, if you have the space.

I provide my hirondelle with a barn and my rougequeue noir with a woodshed.
Do I now have to put a box up as well?
Question Author
Well, I would, shoota. The more the merrier.

Woodshed? Have you read Cold Comfort Farm?
Wouldnt be without our blue tit box. So much fun watching them, and hopefully get some more babies one day soon Tilly.

I suppose this is a daft category to put this in. I suspect most people who are interested in birds already have boxes in their garden. I should have put it in Chatterbank. Oh, well.

Good luck with your nest box, pusskin.
Boy #2 has a nest box with a camera and audio - it's been up a few weeks but nothing is showing any interest in it.

How lovely, sherr. Let me know if anything happens please.
"I provide my hirondelle with a barn and my rougequeue noir with a woodshed."

French vocabulary has now expanded a bit. You can always learn something in AB.
Tilly - it was v reasonable, it's from Aldi.
i put one up 7 years ago when i moved here but sadly its never been used yet in my last place they used it every year and it was lovely to see them in and out of the box,,sadly i never got to see the little ones leave the box.
Actually T it's a stone shed with a Hot Tin Roof (in the summer) in which live some oak logs and a nestful of rn's
Question Author
Sherr, I saw one in the garden centre a couple of weeks ago. It was over £50.00.

I'll make an effort to go to our nearest Aldi and see if they have any. Thanks for that.

........and the wine is kept in a barn, shoota?
A 'cave' Till
Question Author
You said.'I provide my hirondelle with a barn.' Now I'm confused.
I think you are talking about Hirondelle whilst I am talking about hirondelle.

But I doubt you'd find any Hirondelle in either my cave or my barn.......

That capital letter is so important.
Yes, one you swallow, the other is a swallow.
I fixed one to the back of my house a few years ago. Although I saw a great tit check it out, no-one moved in. Last year, I decided it was probably too exposed and moved it to a high fence covered by various climbing plants. Still no-one moved in, but a pair of wrens used it as a platform for their nest. I think that the birds in my garden are just plain awkward.
You probably all do this but I looked at the RSPB site to find out where to site nest boxes.
Worked brilliantly in my last garden but they're being a little slow here..:-(
