Are Islamic faith schools and religion-based university societies breeding grounds for extremism, and if so, should they be abolished?

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/exclusive-woolwich-atrocity-was-a-state-hoax-say-university-extremists-8641917.html

9/11 was allegedly engineered by the US government, and schoolgirl, Malala Yousafzai, was allegedly shot in the head by the CIA. This is just some of the propaganda being perpetrated – and, by the easily influenced, believed.

//A member of the LMU Islamic Society, Sanah Nawab, said she was not responsible for the videos and claimed that others were but refused to elaborate. She directed the Evening Standard to the president, Bileh Elmi, who refused repeated requests for comment.

Sheikh Riyadh ul-Haq also failed to respond to requests for a comment.//

Christians and Muslims have never got on, as far back as the crusades. We have been fighting in Afghanistan on and off for over 100 years.

Allowing so many Muslims to live in the country was HUGE mistake and one we may live to regret when we get civil war in this country.

Look at the fights between EDL/BNP and muslim and anti facist groups we have had already, and they are nothing to what we may get in the future.
You can not stop folk talking so if they speak evil under the guise of a religious discussion group the only hope one has is that decent members of the religion get involved to try to ensure this doesn't happen unknown behind closed doors.

Not keen on non secular schools anyway. Religion indoctrination should be separate from giving folk a decent education.
There are all sorts of conspiracy theorists

There are plenty around who think that 9/11 was perpertrated by the CIA - and they have videos to prove it too!

Plenty think JFK was murdered by the Mob and as for those who think man didn't land on the moon they are legion.

If you want to massively rise tensions by forsibly closing down University groups I think you'd wand to have better evidence than a conspiracy theory video made by a bunch of students

Jake, //I think you'd wand [sic] to have better evidence than a conspiracy theory video made by a bunch of students //

The video is just an example. We know that students are recruited by radical Islamists in these establishments.

Oh I am glad we have our own conspiracy -
I get tired of all these American expensively produced imports

I hope it gets up and runs. cue frizzy haired inarticulate intellectuals of all races having a rant in a variety of languages - welsh for example - and making us all glad we are English. or talking post-boxes draped in black !

The tavistock square bomb hoax conspiracy was a bit of damp squib.
Altho I watched with interest, my interest was not enough and it sudduv died ab initio as it were. There were bits of peope splattered against the buildings and a severed head in a garden (of the malefactor) and these were neva satisfactorily explained away, except for the obvious - there had been a bomb

oh and by the way:
Princess Di was assassinated by MI5 and her father in law to prevent her from marrying Dodie isnt wild conspiracy - it is science fact !
There are people who still believe that the earth is flat ! Hardly anybody will believe this, even amongst the stupid elements in society.
That's partly my point Naomi

Such videos are neither here nor there and detract from what is a serious point.

There have been Student Islamics Societies shutdown for radicalism - like the one at the City University so it is a serious concern.

But citing silly videos claiming conspiracies allows people to trivialise the issue.

The other part of my point is that you cannot must not do this wholesale - such societies are independant of each other under the control of individual Universities. If there is a problem with one like at City it needs to be shut down.

You can't just shut them all down because you think there is some sort of conspiracy going on (Oh look we're back to conspiracy theories again)
.

Oh the English dont really do conspiracies.....
unlke our cousins stateside....
Question Author
Jake, //Such videos are neither here nor there…//

Oh, but they are – and very much so. This is exactly the sort of thing that breeds suspicion and encourages people to believe that the west is a demon intent on the destruction of Islam – and that is precisely why is it done.

//you cannot must not do this wholesale - such societies are independant of each other under the control of individual Universities. If there is a problem with one like at City it needs to be shut down.//

I know they are independent of each other, and it’s incumbent upon individual universities to ensure that they do their utmost to prevent recruitment of students into the ranks radical Islamists.

//You can't just shut them all down because you think there is some sort of conspiracy going on (Oh look we're back to conspiracy theories again)//

No, you’re back to conspiracy theories - not I. I don’t think there’s any conspiracy here. I think the fact that these organisations are producing and publishing this damaging propaganda is absolutely accurate.
why is this a surprise, it isn't to me, some Uni's are becoming breeding grounds for those who don't agree with western democracy, not sure why they go honestly, the ones in recent days asking for segregation of the sexes, women to sit away from the men, you know my views on that, botox all. There is much video evidence taken by passers by of the death of Lee Rigby, played out in all it's gory detail, i watched in abject horror at it unfolding, as did witnesses standing near, one said he virtually saw the man decapitate the soldier. The of course the various imams i mentioned who said these men don't speak for followers of Islam, they are both mentally ill, another excuse, if they need one that is for this and other heinous acts. When will the stupid authorities in schools, universities start waking up to this.
i too wasn't far from the bus bomb 7/7, believe me there was no conspiracy there.
is there a technical distinction between a Muslim and an Islamist?
Question Author
It might not be the best example, but off the top of my head, if you compare a German to a Nazi, it might give you some idea.
humber

"Islamism" is a term that's come up over the past 10 years or so (I believe Christopher Hitchens is usually attributed with coming up with it but he usually denied this). It's interchangeable with more politicsy-sounding jargon like "Islamofascism" - it just means the wing of Islam that seeks to destroy or convert opposition and enforce religious law - like those governments seen in Iran, Saudi Arabia etc.

People like Majid Nawaz (is that his name? He was on QT a couple weeks ago and also does various debates online) cite "Islamism" as an umbrella term for extreme minority viewpoints and use it to make a distinction between those and mainstream Islam.

So it isn't a hugely clear concept - it just means the people usually referred to as extremists.
^^thanks both

Surprise surprise. And what will the establishment do about?

Chatter probably

Cameron talks the talk, about time he learnt to walk the walk. But dont hold your breath

If you were Prime Minister...what would you do.

Seriously - some specifics would be great. Would you shut down all faith schools, or all Islamic schools, or all Islamic schools where extremists were believed to operate.

Who would define 'extremist'?

How would evidence be gathered?

Who would gather the evidence?

What would you do with the students displaced when their schools/colleges closed?

Alternatively, would you simply seek a ban on lecturers who held extremist views?

Would that be a nationwide teaching ban?

Would it be a lifelong ban?

I ask all these questions, because it's easy to say, "Somebody must do something", but defining that 'something' introduces a few questions
/// is there a technical distinction between a Muslim and an Islamist? ///

naomi24 has it about right, one generally blames Muslim misdeeds on Islam when one does not want to be seen picking on the Muslims.
Oh a bit like when you want to blame misdeeds on individuals in the army without blaming the army as a whole?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22769080

Like when they abuse afghan children telling them to 'touch my special place'?

Or hang notices around people's heads that read 'silly ***'

Is that the sort of thing you mean?
