Its my grandsons 2nd birthday in 3 weeks and would like to buy him something personal.
I have his main pressie but would just like to get him something special he will be able to keep in the future, to remind him of me.

Being, as I am, in the U.S., I don't have anyway of knowing about "traditions" in the U.K. But I was really impressed at a farm retirement auction near our home last week. This is an auction type sale when a rancher retires and sells most of the accumulated "junque" from over the years.
The original owners had long since passed on and the kids (in their 50's and 60's themselves) were managing the sale.
Any way, I noticed a small packet in a box of said remnants and on closer inspection it looked like a set of 6 silver "baby" spoons... I was fortunate to win them for a reasonable price and when at home found that they were "Birth Record Spoons". They are about 4 inches long with a fairly wide bowl. Manufactured by Wm. Rogers they have the .925 stamp of real silver.
The front of the handles are richly decorated... from the top, where the childs first name is engraved, it moves down to a stylized closkc with the hands set at the time of the birth and the day, month and year are engraved on each side of that. Further down is a long-legged stork sitting on a rooftop. Very attractive and something a child would surely cherish in later years.
Google "Silver Birth Record Spoons" to see what I'm talking about. These can be bought in silver-plate as well to lessen the cost... Old fashioned I know, but fills the bill, no?
