Brilliant. Furminators are excellent for removing dead hair.

We use one, they really are good! look on ebay for them, buy an original for half the price of in the shops.

Depends on the type of coat, absolutely rubbish on Rough Collies.

anne - yes, excellent. They are quite heavy so you do have to use with care (not wallop the cat like I did, in error) but they do remove loads of underhair. I got mine on eBay for £6.99 - I've seen them at £30 in the shops.

They're great. I got a small one and do the cat and next door's small dog.

Just saw this thread and ordered one off Amazon, the hound is just starting to moult again and it will be awful, so I'm hoping this furminator will take the pain out of it all.

And don't forget, in the spring, toss the hair on your garden borders and the birds will use it for nesting. Nothing gets wasted:-)

in the past we've put hair in one of the bags you get oranges in, and hung it on a tree.

I'm seriously considering saving the fluff up, then getting it spun to make a jumper.

Hmm, the cat's would be OK, lovely and soft. But the dog's hair is very wiry. Too itchy I think.

My dog's hair is lovely, really soft, he's an Akita X and fortunately got their fur.

My border terriers got a good going over this morning with our medium sized one. Just go easy in those delicate areas.

Delicate areas, lol, I'll be lucky to get anything off him to be honest, as soon as he sees a brush or comb he dives under the trampoline and stays there.

I clipped our little Shih-Tzu Sammy today and have put the fur I took off him into the hedge in our garden. Should make a lot of birdies very happy! Sammy's coat is not suitable for the Furminator, but as ratter said, we do use one (an original one!) on our Wolfhounds and it does a great job. Just remember not to do it too often, so as not to ruin the dog's coat. Also be very careful around the nipple area! There are people who will spin up dog hair and I have seen dog hair sweaters. I am hoping to get a spinning wheel some time this year and to take some lessons, but I'm not too sure I would want a jumper from our hounds though. :o)

Question Author
thanks all for info, my HH is size approx of a dalmatian , smooth coat, would a small or medium brush be suitable ?
|
|
Small I use on my little cat so I would say medium.
|
|
I use the large one on our Wolfies, so I expect the medium might be the best for you, Anne. I wouldn't go for the small for the size of your dog myself. x
