Watching programme nothing to declare about australian border patrol

Snakes concealed in mail in an attempt to illegally import from
Thailand...

One died however 3 left alive and in quarantine

My question is seeing how thailand wont take them back (why?)
They had to be euthanised? Why!???

I really dislike snakes but i find that so so sad- they were not a protected species but i still cant see why they cant b sold on or go to a zoo or taken back to their natural habitat after quarantine?

Same happens with birds and other poor animals its so so cruel x

Probably for the same reason that Australia won't take them; the possibility of the reptile having contacted a disease/viruses. Animals in transport are stressed and any transported in less than ideal conditions are very likely to succumb to any organisms that they may previously have been resistant to.
Australia is very strict about animals being imported into the country, it is to protect the balance of their own wildlife. New Zealand laws are very similar too. They can't risk non native species being released and breeding amongst themselves or the native creatures.
If only our Borders could be half as tight!
It is also a question of who will pay to have them repatriated, and some airlines have a policy of not transporting live animals. It's not as simple as just putting them on the plane and sending them back, there is a lot of red tape involved.
