I thought my policy was a good one with More than.. however my yorkie needs an operation (never claimed as yet and he's now 3) on his mouth and guess what.. it's not covered as classed as "routine dental" they don't cover that. Made me wonder if there are actually any good ones as such.

Sorry thats not much help really but I wouldn't choose More than again.
Yes, whatever you do, get a look at the small print first. Some insurers won't pay unless your vet has notified them immediately on seeing the dog or where an accident injury or condition is not treated immediately ! Others have strange definitions of what is routine treatment. Others have odd exclusions for age, so some breeds are not covered or not fully covered on reaching or being a certain age. Some exclude some treatments. All of them offer wonderful deals which are meaningless in practice. For example, one proudly told me that it was increasing public liability cover from , I think, 5 million to 10 million at no extra cost! In Britain my dog would need to write off an airliner to get anywhere near a claim of that size ,and then 10 miilion might not be enough! (Home insurance normally covers you against public liability anyway)
Yes, also look at how long illnesses are covered - some policies will cover expenses for a year for a single condition, and then you're on your own. Or they cover up to a certain amount and after that you have to pay. Something like diabetes could add up over the years!
I'd always put the money away each month instead of paying an insurance company. Over the years have only ever had one bill that was more than the excess, and that was only 250.
thats what Im doing Lankeela thanks to your advice

Hope this helps
I use Direct Line, they have already proved to be really good when one of my dogs was bitten by an Adder last Summer, he was at the vets overnight and on a drip for 5 hours, costing almost 400! I have just had to renew the policy and unbelievably the premium hasn't gone up that much, it works out at around 8 per dog per month, I have 4 dogs, so I am really pleased with it.
hiya,

we are with direct line aswell and have also had a really positive time with them. my dog got attacked by a big dog and the treatment from the vet was over 700 and direct line dealt with a very hysterical me in a very understanding manner and deat with all the payments direct through the vet, which made everything much easier for me.

also having been unlucky with another pet insurance company in the past, i asked them loads of questions about the small print and what would and wouldt be included and they really do cover a lot more than most other companies.

hope you find what you're looking for
