This might sound silly ,but, if I were ever to live in one I would buy a couple of parachutes.

This is not me being flippant.

I simply wouldn't live in one. Sounds a bit flippant, but it's true. They're not the first choice of accommodation, surely?
SparklyKidWhat are the dangers you see from living in a high rise, apart from fire of course.
Question Author
Fire, Barsel.
I doubt whether you would be high enough for your parachute to deploy properly and be of any use.
Question Author
I thought that as well Ken. I would still buy a couple.
But it may slow SK down enough to just break every bone in his lower body rather than die from fall damage.
"This might sound silly"

well you got that right.
I think you'll find that everything has to be just right before it's safe to parachute from anywhere. If you leap from a building and the wind is against you then your are more likely to be blown back into said building, parachute collapsing, bones broken before probable death from impact. You might b better off with a pair of jet-propelled boots and a strong cape. That is me being flippant:-)
Question Author
Not silly at all Wolfgang. Anything would be preferable to being burnt alive surely.
Absolutely, I couldn't imagine a worse way to go.
I think you are more likely to die of smoke inhalation rather than being burned alive, SK.
SparklyKid The chances of you being burnt alive are very remote, the smoke would kill you first. Living in a bungalow can be just as dangerous if you don't have a smoke alarm.

I just have this image in my head of people leaping from The Twin Towers to certain death, horrific.

The main problem with modern apartment builds seems to be the material used in the construction.
I think you would have a better chance if you bought a really, really long rope and abseil down.
Question Author
I would be very anxious living sixty floors up from ground level.
You'd have lovely views though Sparky. :-)
