Hi there
I am off to the coronation street tour next week my mother is taking me on the train she has very kindly organised it. It closes at the end of the month so I am determined to go. I have an ipad with me, a mindfullness colouring book and crayons a Hilary Jones Relaxation programme on spotify and my mother will be with me. The fear of how I will feel if I dont go is far greater than my fear of travel althoguh of course its still there. Since Monday I have been experiencing racing thoughts, insomnia and lack of appetite telling me all the what ifs but I remember years ago I took a journey in torrential snow and everything was fine I spent days worrying before hand it was a complete waste of time. Whats the worst than can happen really? I even spoke to my GP and she said I have atrial fibrilliation at home and it could happen or not happen anywhere so dont let that put me off. i am determined to face my fear. Even if I had to do it afraid im doing it any tips anyone

In my experience, a phobia like this is akin to hang-gliding - it looks and feels far more scary thinking about it than it is actually doing it. What happened at the party you went to?

It was fine I really enjoyed it i was a wee bit anxious but only for a couple of minutes it was nothing like I had imagined before hand
Exactly...try and bring yourself back to that place.

It would be anything like your fears.
It sounds like you have prepared well with plenty of things to distract you.
Try to keep thinking positively beforehand, instead of the 'what ifs' think of times you worried and everything went well, like the party ummmm has mentioned.
It certainly sounds like you are determined enough to do this and you will enjoy it.

Your GP is quite right, should anything happen and you fall ill there are all the facilities close to hand - relax and just do me a favour.

Be careful on those cobbles, especiay if they are wet.

Have a great time.
^^ Especially
And my computer keeps knocking off my 'n't'

You can easily work yourself up itno a frenzy of anticipation, and then be fine right through.

If you concentrate on breathing deeply - in through your nose and out through your mouth, that has two effects - it ensures that you are fully oxygenated which will prevent you hyperventilating, and secondly, the concentration needed to do that will take your mind off your fear and keep you calm.

Good luck.
Oh yes, have a great time :)
Have you tried Rescue Remedy - I find this settles my nerves before I face the dentist, doctor etc. Try to relax and enjoy your trip. x
All I can say, gordie is, that you will really enjoy it. I went in September and it's a great experience. Look forward to seeing the real Coronation Street before as you said, it closes forever. You can do it. X
