Animal rescue places that ACTUALLY rescue animals?????

Does anyone know of an animal rescue place that actually does come out and rescue an animal if you report it?
I have had a stray cat living in my garden for over a month now, he is tatty, malnurished, and sits out in the rain getting soaked which all suggest to me that he doesnt have a home of his own...
RSPCA will pay for a 10 min check-up at a vets but can't rescue him... Hula dont have any space...
Any suggestions please?
Buckinghamshire, UK area please.

I'm an RSPCA volunteer and I think they do a great job. Did you call your local branch instead of the national help line? They should have been able to help even if it was only advising you what to do next.
We feed a cat that comes in our garden..took a photo of her and asked all around the neighbourhood but no one knew who she belonged to,Winter was coming on so hubby built her a good shelter.which she did use and we still feed her..and boy can she eat..we already have a cat ..he's actually eighteen today and he isn't very taken with her..but as long as she keeps coming here we feed her..so please give that little cat some food and shelter raelgrin..don't take it to the vets if you can at all help it..you will get paid back believe me.
