Hi all,

Hope someone here can help as I'm at my wits end over my dog.

i have a 3 year old Chocolate Lab but he has one MAJOR issue. He's so jealous.

I've had him as an 8 week old pup but he does not like anyone or anything near me. He's grown up with a Jack Russell and 3 cats buts if any of them jump on my lap or come near me he gets up from wherever he is (even if he's sleeping) and pushes them off or away. Even when I take him for a walk if another dog comes towards me he'll stand between us, if the dog does manage to get to me he'll come charging from wherever he is and push the dog away. He never barks or attacks them just pushes them away, smells their bits carry's on.

Here is my main problem. Me and my partner are moving in together he has a 15 week old pup who is the sweetest docile thing you'd ever meet. We decided they should meet on neutral territory so took them to the park. As soon as my partner and his dog walked up to us my dog just barked and chased him away, he has never done this. The poor pup was petrified and just sat down away from us.

I try and praise the dog if he does let someone stay on my lap saying things like good leave etc but he's just not getting it and I don't know why.

Any help would be great.

p.s sorry for the long post :)

Oh just thought I'd mention he is not neutered
Hi, sounds to me like you just answered your own question! He's not jealous, he's being dominant. It really could be as easy as having him neutered, especially before it does escalate into aggression, why not have a chat to your vet.

Yes - I've have him neutered. He's guarding you, he thinks he owns you. Time to make it clear that it's your house, not his.
BTW you will need to do this soon if your partner is bringing his puppy to live with you, otherwise poor puppy will spend all his time being hounded into a corner because your dog thinks he's in charge. No he's not - you are.
What boxtops said, definitely.^

Surely it can't be as simple as getting him done can it?
Yep "0ff with his................."
You would have a far more serious problem on your hands if you and your Partner decided to have Children ! What if he attacked your Baby, something needs to be done to sort out this jealousy.
It can, at the moment he hinks he is the boss but you have to show him you are so take away his manhood and he will find his own place in the pecking order
