I absolutely cannot have a cold or sore throat on sunday. On Monday I had a feeling a cold was on it's way, so I brought that Vicks First Defence stuff, and have been fine until today, but now it's definitely the start of a proper cold. What can I do to be fine for Sunday?!

Pray! I don't think there is much you can do. I've had one since last Thursday and it gets worse before it gets better. Hope you manage to hold yours off.

best cure for a sore throat in my opinion is salt disolved in warm water. Don't drink it, just gargle and hopefully it'll clear it up. As for a cold, you can get stuff which stops your nose running for up to 4 hours (i think that's how long it is) from a pharmacy. I can't remember the name but I took it when I had exams (so I wouldn't annoy people with my sniffing) and it worked really well.

Thanks!

I think that's what I'll be resorting to maggie!

Just normal table salt Morrisonker?

I can 'smell' a cold early on and i try to fend it off by simply taken two paracetomol every four hours. It keeps a lid on the symptons and although you feel unwell for a couple of days it very rarely turns into a full blown cold. My friend swears by 'over dosing' on Vitamin c but i'm not so sure that is a good idea. Paracetamols are also much cheaper than the expensive branded drugs which are basically the same thing anyway.
Take some vitamin C with zinc - redoxan do a good one which you can buy in supermarkets aswell as chemists - I take one at the first sniffle and it seems to hold it at bay. Garlic pearls are also good for a sore throat.

My Auntie had a cold starting last week so bought that Vicks First Defence stuff and said that her cold had gone completely in two days, though whether that had anything to do with the whisky in lemsip she was taking aswell I wouldn't like to say, whatever, it worked!

All very good answers, but to stop you from feeling unwell in the first place try taking ECHINACEA tablets, you can get them from any pharmacies and the bigger known supermarkets.Apparently they build up your immune system to fight off any cold type illnesses.I appreciate the fact this advice may be to late for sunday but its guarenteed to help in the future!!

ECHINACEA is the best stuff for me...I take the drops from Holland and Barratt and also Vitamin C..2 chewable tablets a day all through the winter and haven't had a cold for 5 years. Good luck for Sunday.

Thanks for all your answers! I'll try various methods and just hope it's gone enough! And I might invest in some Echinacea for the future!

Thanks xx

I agree entirely with BobbyBobBob and Barb1314 - I tell everyone about ECHINACEA - from Holland & Barrett, take a couple of tablets on the first day whenever you get the first signs of a cold or sore throat, or even if someone close to you has one or starts sneezing - then take one once a day for the next week or so, or until you start feeling better. They are magic, as are Vitamin C tablets. But don't take Echinacea all the time .. only when you need it. In the winter, it is usually once every six weeks or so! So the bottle will last you ages.
Zip, I suffer from terrible headcolds, felt one coming on the other week, dosed up on the paracetemol for daytime, Nightnurse and loads and loads of hot blackcurrrant squash with honey. Just keep on having hot drinks as much as possible. Cold came out but was not as bad as usual and I recovered quickly. I think it was the extra Vitamin C.
