I live in West Yorkshire. Looking out of the window at 8.10pm ish there were loads of orange lights all following each other. When they had gone there were loads more. They were coming from the south west and going toward north west. This went on for about 20 minutes. Any ideas? They were not air planes nor were they fireworks.

The conditions are becoming right for the Northern Lights. We live on the N. Yorkshire coast and have seen them from time to time. At this latitude they tend not to move as much as further N. Will nip up to my eyrie and have a look.
probably chinese lanterns, we sent some up 2 weeks agoat Danny's graveside and they looked amazing.
I noticed one of those here in Essex. Orange light that was not an airplane, and not a lantern because it was travelling too fast and straight along. It wasn't Northern Lights as it was too concentrated. I was also wondering what's going on.

Agreed, nothing doing in the sky.
My next door neighbour set one off right by our conservatory door. was amazing. She sent it off to celebrate one year of her mums passing. I watched it for ages till it went from view. (This was last night jeza)
A barn in the next village to ours went up in flames a few months back due to chinese lanterns being lit and released into the sky.

Baldric, thanks for that link, I have signed and also shared it on Facebook.
Could they have been helicopters do you think, Jeza ?.
Question Author
Too high for choppers and too many of them Tony. There must have been 70 or more.
Ah right, you'll have to keep your eye on the local news, Jeza.
The one I saw was too high for a helicopter too. I will pop out in a mo and see if I can see any more of them.
Chinese lanterns can easily travel at a height of 1000 metres.
Question Author
Daffy, to me it appeared to be plane height and travelling fast. At ground level we have no wind.
BTW, mine definitely wasn't a lantern. I've let off loads of lanterns in the past so am used to seeing them. (PS I don't do them anymore since realising how dangerous they are)
I can't think what it was then Jeza. Do you have a Facebook account? if so you could see if any of your towns community groups on there have any info, your local police probably have their own site too.
Question Author
Don't do face book Daffy. I will watch the local news tomorrow. I will say though I can't be the only person in W/Y to have seen it.
