Adverts on Answerbank

I notice that after looking for new boots a few days ago,( I went onto Ebay and then googled a search for "womens boots") all the sidebars on answerbank and other sites I visit are all related to boots, including the other websites I went on. Is this what's called Viral Marketing?

I don't know what it's called, but it's to do with tailoring what you see on the screen to the sites you've been visiting.

Is there any way of turning it off? If I have to see adverts, I'd rather see something new than the same old advert time and time again.
If you have Firefox, there is something you can download called Adblock-it blocks all advertising. If you type 'adblock' into the search bar here-a number of relevant posts will come up.
Its worth using Firefox for Adblock alone IMO- tho' plenty of other reasons too.
I use Adblock on Safari, works like a charm

Oh, I'll go and have a look - there must be something similar for IE, don't you think?
