How on earth have these kids never come across a vegetable or fruit? And why on earth do their Mothers never cook proper food.......

No-one seems to have the time to stand and cook a nourishing meal nowadays. I ask my gddaughter what she's having for tea when her dad gets home, usually its spag bol. Kids often have to either get their own or wait until their parents come home from work later, and then its more likely to be something out of a frozen packet for microwaving.
Question Author
working parents are not the reason - my parents worked and I still enjoyed veg and fruit as well as the treats in life.. But the easiness of packet food cannot be good for any child
I blame religion.
I work full time but my kids eat properly, mostly!

Mick - any one in particular or it all in general,,,,,,?
Dont think i saw many fruit and vegetables either as a kid. My mum was agog with a microwave, and used it ....alot. Basically if the food couldn't be microwaved, we didn't get it. I know plenty, of my generation, who were exactly the same too.

The difference being however, was that we played out as kids, from morning till night, no chance of ever getting fat or even slightly overweight.
dunno really, Crafty junior.............but

Boo - quite agree, no playstation back in those days

Mark - glad Im an atheist :)
me too, junior
Exactly B00. I have a nephew of 9 who is still only allowed out on pre-arranged play dates. Kids just aren't allowed to go out anymore so sit on their backsides getting fat.

I don't think it has much to do with working parents either. My parents had 4 jobs between them at times and we still got decent cooked food most nights. If I chose not to eat it, that's a different thing.
I used to prepare a meal the night before, or use the timer on the cooker to cook the evening meal. As a child my mum stayed at home and cooked all our meals (I went home at lunch time and had a proper dinner) and we played out after school. As b00 says kids don't play out the way we used to.

there is no excuse these days for not making a meal for your kids from scratch - if the easy quick version is needed, then a wok is as quick as a microwave and much healthier
can you cook frozen lasagna in a wok?
Question Author
not sure on that one Mark but you can heat up mulled wine!!
I can't, I haven't got any.
i do have a frozen lasagna though.

and a wok.
I work and cook dinner from scratch, its a poor excuse to blame work.
<<<<is hoping mark will post a piccy of the end result :p
if no one shows you how to "make meals from scratch", how are you supposed to cook that way?

Lets face it, you can buy fishfingers and a bag of frozen chips for a couple of quid from Iceland. Which of todays young mums is going to buy the (usually) endless ingredients, and at a massive cost, to make one meal with?
Question Author
Lore - you mean you want to see Marks attempt at a lasagne in a wok...?
When I was working full time I found it really difficult to make a home-made meal (time was a big issue) but now I don't work all of our food is home made. The kids prefer the taste and it is cheaper for us to buy ingredients rather than ready meals. However, I do reserve the right (in my mind) to a 'freezer tea' if there is a lot going on or one of the little ones is poorly (and it is seen as a treat) - but they have to have vegetables with it to cancel out the 'bad' stuff.
