Please bear with me as I am elderly and not completely 'tech savvy" but I am sure when I first got the phone I managed to transfer photos and Sony tell me to pull down on home page and it will show the setting to do this but nothing there!

So I went into settings -device connection (after connecting the proper lead from PC-not a charge lead) and it shows USB Charge symbol and 'this device' highlighted but...beneath that the transfer option is greyed out so when I go into the laptop and right click the photo and 'send to' the Sony phone does not show!

On reflection does the type of lead matter. I do not use the charging lead that came with the phone but purchased another micro C to USB. Is this the incorrect lead and that is why it only shows USB Charge when I connect? If so how do I know what lead to get?
As I said - I am sure I transferred OK when I first had the phone!

I tried to use Blue Tooth to do it but did not know how to use this.

Thanks everyone

I've got a Sony Xperia III 10 and I'm almost sure I had problems when I used a different charging lead.
Try plugging in the phone to the laptop (with the original lead) and then you'll probably be presented with the option of "transfer files".

I've just plugged my phone in and I got a pop up on my phone asking to "allow access" - make sure you click "allow" if you get this pop up.
Sorry, I meant Xperia 10 III not Xperia III 10 ..... but you probably knew that anyway :)
Why didn't you use the original cable?
Can you post a link to the cable you did buy that doesn't work?
I don’t know your phone (as I don’t have a mobile), but if its possible you could setup a Dropbox, OneDrive or GoogleDrive and then transfer the photos to there. Then you could access them on the computer by logging in on it.

I use these with my ipad and computer.

Original lead does not work either - only charge!
Moggie
The cable you bought is for cameras
Where did you buy the phone and lead from - was it new or used when you bought it??
If it's an original lead, it should work okay.

Moggie, just click 'subscribe to this thread' to get emails.

Have you tried using a different usb port in your PC?

Also consider using online storage as already suggested, I like OneDrive

Hello Barry and Giz'
I must apologise! I tried the original lead and that lead for charging was a micro c to micro c - not to usb!
So I plugged on end into the micro c ort which I did not realise I had on the opposite side of my laptop and connected to camera and this worked and automatically brought up the transfer moxe and the pictures arrived in my camera!
I tried some holiday photos as a test and they worked but I had tried to send to my phone a photo my son had sent from his iphone as an email and this did not seem to be same format
Thanks everyone - I am now happy I can do transfers
Moggie
Glad you've sorted it .... eventually lol :)
Yay!
