I would like to acknowledge that there are some accounts that have been created by our moderators, to help them control the community, without breaking their normal identity.

Having multiple AnswerBank accounts is against site rules. However, these accounts have been approved by the Editors.

These moderators will be added to this thread, and you should give them as much respect as you would give to an Editor.

If you are a moderator, and would like to have one of these accounts, please send us an email.

Zacsmaster - It looks like I started all of this last night. In the past I removed posts and had to watch as a row breaks out about who was responsible and why. I can now use my usual name to remove the posts and explain why in my secretmod name. I will also be able to warn posters to kerb their tempers and it might result in less suspensions happening.

"You could have done the decent thing and shown a bit of respect for the membership by coming clean as other mods have."

You're claiming that those who don't reveal they are Mods don't have respect for the membership? Really? On what is that based?

Perhaps they don't want to be personally criticized for doing what is expected of them by those who show disregard for the rules on a daily basis?

Is it any wonder the majority want to remain unknown?
Thanks, Pasta. As someone completely unaware of the background, the ABSE’s post was somewhat confusing.
Why should a moderator identify him/herself? We've all seen the flack some mods put up with.
The new process allows a Mod to explain a decision (if they choose to) and to issue words of advice whilst using an alternative name but be able to participate in a thread still.
Keyword filtering is a pain in the backside. Keto diets are legitimate and favoured by some diabetics and some trying to lose weight. CBD gummies are sold in Boots and Holland & Barrets, amongst other reputable shops.
There may be genuine questions about these.
No problem with having secret mods, with so many answers removed and some demanding an explanation like children, makes sense to me.

To be clear I’m not Spartacus.
As long as the bullying, extreme imsults, spam, and false hurtful accusations are zapped, I don't care whether the removals are from mods, secretmods or aliens from outer space

Indeed, but these people are having free advertising whilst legitimate advertiers pay the website.
Barry, there is only one named mod who gets ‘flak’ - and that’s not due to status.

Corby, it’s my opinion.
NAOMI, can you explain how knowing the identity of a Mod would improve how they behaved and your opinion of them?
Every mod will be 'Secret Mod' when and if they choose to explain a decision or to warn naughty people to behave?
Or every mod will use a different alias when doing so and all the different aliases will be announced here?
Corby, It wouldn’t necessarily improve the way some of them behave - the zapper on any occasion is unknown to the membership anyway - but it would certainly improve my level of respect for them.
Not that I'll be affected. But people won't like being 'told off' by someone who appears to be a common or garden ABer.
If they do all have different names they should have the word Mod in that name so we don't have to remember all the aliases. imho.
Actually, spice, B00 was a mod who often told people to rein their wayward fingers in - and she was very well liked.

"Will that be their regular username - or their ‘secret’ name?"

Their regular username.

"You could have done the decent thing and shown a bit of respect for the membership by coming clean as other mods have."

Respect is a two way street. Once moderators get respect, maybe they would be more inclined to disclose their identity. That is not to say that you personally do not respect the moderators, Naomi24.
Naomi, the mods get lots of flack - not just Andy. A post or thread is removed and people moan and whinge, it's not all down to Andy.
'proprietorial' is a good word.
This is better than Len Deighton…..
Question Author
"Or every mod will use a different alias when doing so and all the different aliases will be announced here?"

Exactly that. If moderators all used the same 'secret mod' then the Editors would not be able to analyse how individual moderators used the account.
