Hello - we have just the two of us using this computer - each with our own log-in. Hubby's login has been attacked with that 'Cheshire Police Computer Frozen Pay a Ransome' scam!. My log in is clear. Should I download the Window Defender Offline clean up thing on this computer or wait till I can get to another uninfected one?

You should be able to clean up his computer logon with any decent anti virus or malware program.

The ransomware program will probably only affect his logon so you should be ok to do anything, such as downloading another security package.

It may be worth creating ANOTHER Windows logon, with the name "spare" or whatever, just in case yours also gets infected and you cant then logon.

too late!!!already turned the bl%%dy thing off and when switched on again now both infected!! Managed to fire up another old laptop that is clear so...... I download Windows Defender Offline onto a disk and then put that in the infected computer and all should become clear - yes??
I think you need to "boot" from the Windows Defender Offline CD/DVD.

If so you need to set the BIOS on the computer so the CD/DVD boots before the hard disk boots.

If you dont do that it will always boot from the hard disk BEFORE it gets a chance to boot from the CD/DVD.
