Username Amnesty Results

Afternoon,

I hope to be able to make the following username changes today at some point.

These usernames ARE NOT LIVE and you should NOT see or be able to use them YET.

I will EMAIL those of you who have usernames which have changed.

I'm afraid that for those of you who have selected a username that already exists (however unused it is) - we can't make the change; sorry! The reasons a varied, but all in all it's a bit of a privacy problem to go in and delete an account which belongs to someone else just because you want their username. We did look at options for how to do this, but we couldn't come to anything satisfactory.

I see, so that means that those of us who totally got what we were meant to do to check, were actually not checking the correct database, only the current database, which means we were not able to spot the names in the previous old database. why are the names in the old database still considered as active then? the profiles of those names are not viewable on AB.

Short answer: technical reasons.

Longer answer as-best-I-understand-it: the bigger the "active" DB, the slower the site. When a user is inactive for a very long time we remove them from the active DB, keeping the site quick.

We'll work it out, but not this afternoon :)

well, you can certainly delete the old 'excelsior' account .... because that was me, under a different e-mail some years ago

then you could change me to that name

Well since your avatar is connected to your registered email addy with gravatar, and your user name on this site is a username only on this site (in principle), then it shouldn't matter what your avatar is with respect to your username as neither of the sites know about your usage on either site, under Data protection, etc.

Hi Ed. I know we who have not been changed are a moaning lot, but can i add ny moan please.....
I asked for the 62 to be dropped and to just be Sparkles.
I checked and couldn't find anyone using it already, have I just been overlooked, or didn't I check properly.
