the videos and images are freely accessible to most children these days so a discussion within one of these personal development lessons may well be appropriate as I would imagine that most children are now getting their first insight into sex from the porn industry. If children are attempting to copy porn activity in their own relationships then that is a concern both sexual health and (depending on the porn used as a source) the mental health of the kids involved.
i may be naive but i doubt if most children are getting their first insight into sex from the porn industry
It is very easy to see the headline, and jump to the wrong conclusion - a standard tactic for newspapers to engender outrage - discussion - sales.

I think the issue is far more complex (as important issues usually are) than first appears.

I would be wary of a blanket assumption that primary children are rampant porn surfers, but in modern culture, that possibility does need to be addressed in a responsible way.

As with all matters related to the education and safety of children - the starting point is the home, and with a second generation of parents without proper parenting skills, this is not looking good for future generations.
aelmpvw - Yes, I think you are naive thinking that.
I'm not talking primary school children!
should be left to the parents to teach their children, seems many do not however.
if the majority of children meaning 'most' are introduced to sex through porn then i agree, i suffer from naivety
This is just lazy trouble making journalism

Big headline to provoke the sort of response you've obviously felt then further down

//While lessons on pornography would focus on the impact and dangers of graphic images online, they could backfire by alerting children to what can be easily accessed on the internet.//

They could backfire could they?

Gosh I bet history lessons on the second world war could turn our children into Nazis too!

Alerting children that there is pornography on the internet!

Pleeeaseee ! exactly how stupid does the Mail think the rest of the country is?
Fairly stupid apparently. Whilst I agree that porn can give some people the idea that sex is something that it's frequently not and in some instances give lads the impression that girls are the way some are not (and likewise give girls the impression that they have to act and look a certain way) I really don't feel that porn is an enormous issue in the big scheme of things in today's world. Kids are very aware of how to view porn and will do so no matter what parental controls are in place, what they are taught and how ever much anyone tells them not to, because at that mind all people are sexually curious, as such I don'#t really see the point in ' teaching' about the 'dangers' of porn because most kids will be more au fait with it then their teachers.
If theyre teaching kids that to be homosexual is normal.................
Oh FGS!!!
Some porn does encourage dangerous and false stereotyping (e.g. women enjoy pain) which needs countering.
<If theyre teaching kids that to be homosexual is normal.................>

Well that would be wrong as by definition it isn't 'the norm'

but then neither is being exceptionally tall or highly intelligent.

Schoolkids should of course be taught that all those things are natural, acceptable and as worthy of respect as any other such characteristic people might present.
"If theyre teaching kids that to be homosexual is normal................. "

it is if you are a homosexual!

Otherwise it is simply one more small element of the make-up of some people who share our world that makes them inidividual - and amen to that!
I'm not sure normal is synonymous with average or majority Zeuhl

I don't think may people would say it was abnormal to posess a yellow car!

I would say normal is more related to within certain boundaries or 'curtural norms' of behaviour.

And so being gay is in that sense considered normal by much of the population now

The exception to that seems to be with older people - who generally have not changed their perception of homosexuality
//
ummmm
Oh FGS!!! //

///The exception to that seems to be with older people - who generally have not changed their perception of homosexuality ///

... or perhaps you need to change your perception of older people. Majority of my contemporaries (I am over 70) accept homosexuality.

"While lessons on pornography would focus on the impact and dangers of graphic images online, they could backfire by alerting children to what can be easily accessed on the internet."

I would be more than a little surprised if teaching children about the social impact of pornography on the Internet resulted in kids suddenly thinking, "Hey...the Internet has porn? Well I never".

It's not like anyone's proposing to actually tell the kids what websites have the best free downloadable porn...

...unlike the Daily Mail, which published the names of the top five porn websites in an article attacking online porn earlier this year.

They actually gave out the names of the top five porn websites....in...an...article...attacking....
online....porn.

You have to say it twice to take it in.

Brilliant.
as with anything that kids are 'banned' from ... it creates myth and rumour and desire - which can be more dangerous than the truth.

the notion that merely informing kids of things in the world, actually encourages it, is simply not true .. they will discover these things soon enough of their own accord and surely its better to be educated about it, than to be filled with idiotic schoolyard untruths and old wives tales.

the fact is forewarned is forearmed and its always better to get in first and educate, than to have to spend years correcting the wrongs that have become ingrained in their heads.

even today their are kids who think you cant get pregnant on your first time or if you do it standing up etc...

porn is a wholly unrealistic view of sex, and one which young people need to be aware of - aside from the fact that most sex is simply nothing like that, most women dont scream obscenities at their partner, or have sex with the postman within seconds of meeting, one issue with porn is the issue with pubic hair - some men believe that all women are bald down there - or should be, and thats simply unrealistic.
theres a thought that soon men will think pubic hair is unnattractive and expect their partners to shave.
its just a trend that originated from simply making it easier to clean themselves up after a shoot... so i heard.

Do you know the answer?

Is this the type of thing they should be teaching in our schools?
