Should Seagulls Be Culled?

Seagulls were on the news again yesterday. They have extremely sharp beaks and can be quite vicious. They are known to steal food from people and one lady was attacked by a seagull yesterday, leaving an open bloody wound on her head.

Do you think they should be culled?

I agree, waterboatman and think lady-janine's idea of culling them for a year, to see what happens, sounds like a plan!

I live in Brighton-sur-merde and yes, they are a bl***y nuisance , as are urban foxes and all cats. There certainly needs to be some sort of control of them all. I would also want a cull on grockles too. I don't care that they "contribute to the economy".

Before the correction team put the Sea Gull " Hearing Gull " term right, I think they should be culled, these birds are getting very daring in their plight for food as has been shown / reported, although protected, the public have also a right to be protected on the point of safety, how long will it be before these Gulls start attacking baby's in prams, Is it then that the Gull Protection Cranks will listen to reason

Jan - I used to rather like Brighton and would visit perhaps once a year. I am a devotee of Georgette Heyer's Regency novels and wanted to see the Pavilion in all it's glory. However if I am now to be lumped in (as a grockle as you so rudely call us) with seagulls as something to be culled perhaps I will steer clear from now on. :o(

If you watch the other clips on your link, one shows a gull attacking a perfectly healthy pigeon, killing it in a practiced manner and then proceeding to eat it. And you ask, "You think seagulls are vicious?" Well, after watching that, the answer is a resounding "Yes".

First off, mango and jabber, seagulls are much worse than tourists and "grackle" is a derogatory term really. I haven't been to Brighton for quite some time but sure that some of the punters invading the racecourse may have something to say about seagulls.
