Morning all. House flies are driving me crazy.Surely there must be something on the market other than fly spray and those horrible sticky things?? Any recommendations would be great? And, is it me, or are flies getting louder??

Last summer i purchased a magnetic door curtain (about £5 from Amazon). One of the best purchases i ever made and so easy to put up. Allows my dog to come in and out as she pleases and the only occasions when i am pestered by flies, etc, is in really hot weather when she lies half in, half out of the house, creating a gap in the curtain. Such as yesterday:-(

Flies have as much right to live as any other creature, if flies bother you then there is no hope
I have got a flyzapper in my kitchen and chain door curtains over the doors, the kind that foodshops and restaurants use. I got them from Nisbetts. They weren't cheap but were a great investment.
Buy a red top fly trap and park it just outside your door - I can vouch for how effective they are.
Not too close though because a 3 inch black messy layer of dead flies whiffs a bit after a while.
Yes you have a point steg, but I really don't agree that 'there is no hope' if flies bother us ! They are a nuisance buzzing around the house and landing on food. I opened my fridge door the other day and a dirty great fly flew out, goodness knows how long it had been in there and I had to destroy some food that it may have crawled all over !
you wouldn't want to be a golfer, the course was crawling in flies, I think its the humid weather, it might be worth getting some fly screens for your doors/windows to keep them out
Get one of those zappers that are shaped like a tennis racquet. they deliver an electric shock and kill flies. you turn the power on from the handle.
.
i could do wimbledon with the practise im getting with my fly swat even my backhand action is good.lol

Thanks for all your answers. Yes Steg, they have a right to live - just not in my house!!!!
Have you maybe got an infestation of maggots?

I had one but didn'y know due to a sack of potatoes (Yes Potatoes ) having gone off and being infested with maggots so Keep all work surfaces clean and detolled, keep an eye on all foods in cupboards, do not leave bins lidless, keep floor clean and flies should be minimum if you're clean unless you have dirty and questionable neighbors.

Yeah, everything is clean. It's just having the door open for the dogs lets them in. I'm going to get a door screen as advised. Thanks for your input.
I used fly spray in the past but it's horrible watching the flies fly around hallucinating before attacking you then twitching like crazy before their grisly death.

We killed Saddam for doing this to the Kurds
Question Author
Yeah, I agree with that totally.
