Fat people (really fat people - not people who are just a bit porky) disgust me at the best of times, but fat people who are so brazen in their apparent delight at being fat, and their feeling of entitlement to other people's money, really does make me despair. I say 'apparent delight' because I simply do not believe that fat people would rather be fat than slim....

Doesn't that suggest a mental issue NJ ? Who really wants that as a life ?
Well I am svelte of figure myself :-) but nonetheless what a depressing topic.
Have we really nothing better to do than abuse fat people.
I think the thread has more to do with whether paying these benefits is a good use of public money rather than with abusing fat people in general
// Ludwig -many people eat pizzas and fish and chips occasionally and not to excess-why should they suffer because certain people can't control themselves? //

If they're eating them occasionally they're not exactly having to suffer much with an extra 10p on their weekly bag of chips. However, if you're shoving burgers down your gob all day, you'll be paying more. It's targeting the tax at the right people.

It's either that or everyone's tax and NI goes up the same, and the occasional chip eaters end up paying more, with no incentive for tubby people to eat healthier food, or less of it.
Lugwig -so what do you think an acceptable Tax would be in percentage terms? 10%? 20%? 10% on a typical fish supper at £6 =60P . A family of four that means and extra £2.40.
I think the idea though retrochic is that it will lead to greater savings (in health costs, productivity and 'disability' benefits elsewhere.
That fish supper sounds expensive.
I have no idea retro. I'm just supporting the idea of a fat tax in principle.

The sensible eater is being penalised for the excesses of others anyway. This is just a fairer way of spreading the cost - unless you want to scrap the NHS and welfare state of course and let everyone either pay their own way for everything or starve/die. That's a different debate though.
Very expensive. Large fish and chips here would cost about £3.50.

I'm also shocked by the price of delivered pizza. Luckily I don't like pizza.
We pay £6+ both here and Edinburgh for a Fish supper... Hence we have them very rarely
factor -thought that was about average £3.50 to £ 4.50 for fish plus chips - last place we went on while on holiday

Wow. I just looked at a takeaway menu and the prices have gone up quite a bit since the last time I had fish & chips from a chippy.

There's an obvious saving to be made there, if they're not prepared to help themselves, put them in one property, they're family after all, and it'll save all that struggling in and out of the car.

(A) I am fat - my heaviest weight was about 22 stone. I am a few stone less than that now.

(B) I don't work and have not done so since 2003 when I became unfit for work.

There is absolutely no connection between each of these statements. It could be that these lovely ladies have other 'invisible' problems.

Being seriously overweight stresses out the whole body - my knees creak ominously and catching the Lion Cubs to take them to the vet is a nightmare.

What I don't understand is why they are so publicly gloating about it. DWP may be suspicious about their claims - maybe they are Pole Dancers at the weekend - maybe they are not bright enough to work? We will never know.

You wouldn't think it from some of the comments :-)
I think slim people often find it hard to understand over eating, not that they have anything against over weight people in general.

Once I feel full I can't eat anymore. I don't think I've ever felt stuffed like some people I know. My partner would start sweating because he's eating too much. Lucky for him he has a very active job and good genes.

My mums side of the family are tall and slim. My dads side are small and fat. If you're small you look fatter.
