I have a Plum Tree on my allotment with a heavy crop of fruit. I've had to thin them out but they are not yet ripe. Is there a way ripen them? Thanks. John.

At this time of the year, they should already be ripe John ! I would pick some of them and put them on a sunny windows sill.

Just thought...put them in a bowl with a banana...there is something in bananas that makes other fruit ripen more quickly, some kind of gas I think !
I wouldn't try ripening them - I doubt if it would work. Probably too immature. But you could make a smashing chutney with them right now.
