Has anyone used this type of card? I seem to recall some time ago that people in M&S were having money deducted as they walked past counter machinery. My bank has just issued one to me and, to say the least, I'm to be persuaded to use it because of the M&S problem.

Just looking.Help,I've got two, just off to wrap them in foil.
ahh that's not the same thing as someone using the actual card in a transaction in store, i know that can happen with the hand held devices, they are illegal machines like a portable version of the ones they clip to cash dispensers.
lol
Her card was scanned by someone walking past her in the street with a handheld scanner, what part of this are you not understanding? It wasn't a case of someone taking her card, copying it and cloning it, they scanned it whilst it was in her purse and bag.
I get what you are saying, thankfully if anyone passed me with my cards in my purse in my bag their device would struggle to home in on a particular card as I have 2 debit cards in there as well as a credit card and several other cards with chips in and so their device would be confused hopefully,
The scam in bars in town is that, once you've tapped once, the barman puts through more transactions for small, random amounts, like £8.25, and then just "bumps into you" ...

And scans the card in your pocket.

People tend not to notice odd amounts like that.
Phaw, JJ - I would - I go through my bank statement with a fine rake at least once a week!
It's good discipline, boxy, but a lot of people don't.

I can't remember the last time I unfolded a statement.

I have a rough, mental idea of what the balance should kind of be.
Excuse my ignorance but I have never heard of them. Does the money come from your bank account or is it a separate card?
Just returned from H.K. they are used there.
the card has to be within a few centimetres of the chip and pin machine to work, how can a barman trigger it by bumping into someone in a bar unless that someone has the card in their hand and he passes the device close to the card. seems to me it's a little bit of an urban myth thing doing the rounds,
trt it is your normal debit card but with an extra tiny chip, look at your bank cards, if they have a white ))) sihn on the front your card will have the contactless option already
Back or side pocket, tap with the machine ...
dot, when I've tried using mine it doesn't even work if you hammer it onto the reader, Far less fuss just to insert and put in your pin number.

They say it's a bad idea to have an Oyster card [for Londoners] next to your contactless card as the bus reader might deduct money from the wrong card.
credit cards too.
