Car failed it's MOT on a braking imbalance at independent MOT centre, took it to a garage who cleaned the brakes and the car subsequently passed. However a couple of days later the brakes started squealing very loudly. I took it back, they repeated the process and squealing came back again a day later. All I can think of is they haven't greased the back of the pads although there is evidence of copper slip on the inside of the wheel. Has anyone got an ideas? I feel they'll try and sell me new pads if I go back again.

You could ask them to swap the pads round from side to side, this worked for me. Also check the brake pad thickness, sometimes a squeal is a sign that they are running thin and it may only be one pad if the caliper was sticking ...

Thanks Iggy
In would have fitted new brake pads not just had them cleaned , brake pads are so cheap it just does not seem worth the effort of removing the wheels without putting in new pads. Especially as there was brake imbalance which almost certainly means that the pads were wearing unevenly . The pads are less than £20 for most cars, fitting takes a few minutes , not worth changing them around in my opinion just put in new pads and have done with it.
I would have said that Eddie but if a garage has cleaned the brakes twice I guess the pads are not bad, I know a lot of garages that would just shove new pads on and take the money...
