Which is the best one to buy?
where to buy it cheap?
If i take it on holiday, how do I download books?
How much do books cost?
Should I download books before I go away?

I have never had one, and now as i'm going away, I don't want to carry weight in my suitcase, so a kindle can go in my handbag, and wont weigh anything.

I love my kindle. I can take all my books with me - and no Excess Baggage charges! I don't know which is the best, but I've got an Amazon with 3G so wherever I happen to be I can download books. Prices of books vary, as they do in bookshops, but many of the classics are free on Amazon - and you log into their website via your kindle. One click to buy. Easy.

I've got a kindle and I never use it, just get a cheap tablet instead, much more use.
I don't use my Kindle (probably would if I was going on holiday), my son has a Kindle Fire (about £129 at Christams time). That's brill - get the Internet, etc plus the book bit.
I love my Kindle but it's not one of the current models. I take it everywhere............
I bought a kindle and thought it was fantastic, until I got the iPad and the kindle became redundant.
I have two, the ordinary Kindle, and a kindle fire which was given to me as a Christmas present. You can download books for free in some cases, oder titles can be had for a few pence, and it's a bit cheaper to download newer titles than to buy the actual book. The kindle syncs to your broadband and automatically downloads when you complete the purchase. It it possible to download kindle sotware onto your laptop so you can buy and read online as well and when you purchase a book from the kindle store it downloads onto that as well as the kindle. If you just want to use your kindle to read I would simply buy and ordinary kindle - maybe one that allows you to read without a separate light. I find I use my older kindle more than the Fire.

I've got an ordinary Kindle and I love it. I looked at the reviews for the Kindle Fire but people were complaining that you can't read them in the sunlight so they are no good for holidays.

You can get the basic model for £69 - Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
Kindle Fire is more expensive but some public libraries have an e-book section where you can borrow books free.
you are limited to amazon for your books, buy a kobo.

you can use it on an aeroplane, the hotel you stay at will probably have free wifi but you can download books before you go as it saves battery .
Buy a Sony eReader. Supports more formats than Kindle, Kobo or Nook. Not tied to any store.
You can download free recent books from public libraries (I'm registered with 5 different councils); battery life is fab; reading in brilliant sunlight is comfortable.

Naomi, which kindle have you got, link please if possible, I want one I can use to order books via wifi at the hotel aswell, in case I run out of books to read. Also does it have a light for night reading? thanks
Mine is basic, treated myself. Brilliant for holidays (can actually pack some clothes now). Easy reading in the sun and has an attached light. It recently upgraded itself and talks to me. Frightened out of my skin!
Question Author
Also, do I get charged if I use it in wi fi spots to download books, and how do I pay for these books?
Mine's an older one from Amazon - I've had it a few years - so it doesn't have a light - but it does have 3G which means I can buy books from wherever I happen to be in the world without the need for wi fi access. My credit card number is registered with Amazon so I go into their website via the kindle, choose my book, and when I click to buy it's paid for automatically on the credit card and downloaded almost immediately. I can't provide a link because as I said mine's not one of the newer versions. I don't know anything about the others that people here are recommending.

I bought a kindle keyboard, holds 3500 books.
