It persistently reports a paper obstruction and carriage jam but as far as I can make out there are no obstructiuons of any kind.

Restarting time after time sometimes sorts out the problem.

Would using Tesco cartridges be at the root of this trouble?

I have had an HP F4180 a-i-o for 4 years now and had only a few paper jams - and no "false alarms".
Removing a paper jam isn't always easy; there's always a temptation to try to do it by reaching over the printer from the front and removing the rear access door that way. It's not always possible to see the jammed paper doing it this way so I would always recommend attacking the printer from behind (so to speak) so that you can see through the rear access door and remove any bits of paper without contorting yourself.
I don't think Tesco cartridges would cause this sort of problem. I've never used Tesco's but I have used Morrison's. These are OK (ish) but supermarket's cartridge turnover isn't great and I prefer to buy them online to ensure they are fresher and more consistent.

Thanks.
Definitely no paper or bits in the printer. I followed all the tips in the video but it made no difference. So I blew air from my vacuum cleaner into it - still no go.

After putting in a new colour cartidge it did a printout, then after a few failed attempts, it decided to realign the heads - and then managed a doc print. So I'm hopeful of it having sorted itself out now.
