Afternoon,

Someone sent us a message about this quite funny e-peition for No.10:

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/39857

"STOP VAT on Morrisons chicken

Responsible department: Her Majesty's Treasury

STOP VAT on chicken ....... its simple.

im sick of the government putting VAT up, everyone should have a treat in life, and my is chicken from morrisons.

my jaw dropped when the staff at morrisons told me how much the VAT went up on the chicken.

CANT ENJOY ANYTHING"

While it's a little bit funny in itself, if you could completely drop VAT on one item of shopping, or one expense, what would it be?

Fred, lets not forget Bog Roll has VAT on it so not just women being clobered, although the Guardian doesn't and is often free so I suppose there is an alternative.

My tap water is better than any bottled.

I've got a filter, but it needs plumbing in. I need someone to do it for me, as I haven't got a clue where to start.

I can't drink tap water, the fluoride worries me too much.

I go through bottles and bottles of water, so I really should look at getting someone round to fix up the filter.
Scared of dying of water poisoning?
My tap water smells very strongly of chlorine so as soon as it goes anywhere near my face I start feeling sick, once I filter it there is no smell at all and it tastes as clean as any bottled stuff.
sorry to lower the tone, but womens personal hygiene/sanitary wear - what else are we supposed to do - go back to the dark ages if we don't want to pay VAT on it
Hear hear spikey - if you hadn't said that, I would.
Odd that. The people who wrote the VAT rules must have been men. How do men define 'essential' , that being the underlying principle?
Madmen: The fluoride worries you? Are you sure that your supply contains any? Very few UK supplies are fluoridated and any natural-occurring is at very low levels.
Cigarettes.

I'm with Baldric on this - GIN.

In fact I would forgo my winter fuel allowance if they gave pensioners free gin.............

No vat on all basic foods.
tampons
Beer.
it would be a large VAT of something putrid, on all the current crop of politicians, those sitting in their ivory towers passing judgements, then laws that have had a detrimental affect on many who can least afford it.
petrol
