After much research I've just bought my first laptop. It's an Acer Aspire V3-5710G Core i5 Windows 7. Look up the reviews and you might be impressed. I'm very pleased with it.

Cost me £573.41 ( which includes delivery)from Laptops Direct.

Good luck.

Get a laptop a few years old and you probably only need to spend £250 tops. A local laptop specialist shop might sell reconditioned models. Even brand new netbooks can be bought cheap now:-
