Hi Sqad or anyone! OH has just walked out to car and his knee has just gone "twang" at the back and it is so painful he can't bear his weight on it, my neighbour and I have had such a struggle getting him back indoors, he says he feels it is muscular or similar but he is in great pain. He has had 2 paracetemols as because he is on aspirin, atenelol and ramipril I understand he can't take Ibuprofen?

What on earth could he have done, and what shall I do for him please, bearing in mind I can't drive. Shall I get a friend to take him to A&E or do you think it will settle? What a predicament .................

Offer stands as long as you need. If it's LGH I'll wear a disguise.....the staff still run if they see me coming there. :-) Best wishes.

\\\\He got back a little while ago - saw the head nurse,\\\

Is our NHS run by nurses now?
haven't heard of heating an injury ...

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

We only have a Minor Treatment Unit attached to our surgery, they usually see anyone if you walk in but probably not if you phone to ask. It was the easiest option to go there for him as I don't drive, my brother had to quickly take him, and the nearest A&E is 16 miles away. The MTU is completely run by nurses. She was very good, but advised that if it's not better in a few days to make an appointment to see his GP - (right, that will be the end of the month at least then :( )

Cath - I knew about the RICE advice but she said mostly they advise on the warm treatment for knees now - what do you think Sqad?
cath/Ann.......in the acute stage, i don't think it matters one single "jot" whether hot or cold is used.

It has "fashions" one minute hot is in fashion and the next minute cold is in fashion.....translated into simple terms.....it doesn't matter which.
It is also said to alternate from cold treatment to warm treatment, but ideally it is whatever OH feels better with. I personally prefer ice pack. Hope he will soon be on the mend.

Thanks Sqad - he has a hot water bottle under knee. Did you read my comment at 17.11 about surgical spirit poultice - have you heard of it? Sounds a bit like a horse remedy to me?

Thanks for your good wishes fpc
Mr M had something similar a few years ago, he said it felt as though he'd been shot in the leg, turned out to be a torn tendon.

Sqad seemed feisty enough earlier - not sure if Ann would know more?

Haha Desktop - I hope Sqad is fine, I wouldn't really know as he lives in a sunnier place than me ........

Update: OH slightly better today, thank goodness, still hobbling around looking very old with a walking stick! but pain not as bad with the Ibuprofen dose Sqad recommended! He is able to drive, thank goodness, we have an automatic drive car.
