Current criticism comes to nothing (6)

Puzzle theme is that each clue leads to one member/item of a set or sequence (eg. Prime ministers, ordinal numbers, army ranks), where the solution to be entered into the grid is the preceding of following member of the sequence. Hence the clue is undefined, and no letters. However, the preceding/following member has form ?E?E.

It's the last clue, any help would be vastly appreciated!

Indigo - 'in' (current) + 'dig' (criticism) + 'o' (nothing) (?)

If that's correct, could the pattern you've shown be - ?L?E giving 'Blue', the sequence being the colours of the rainbow?

That definitely sounds convincing. The first E comes from a (non-theme, defined) clue:

Unsteady walking? No way! (7)

which I had as REELING, where the E/L is the third letter.
Rolling (unsteady) - lose 'st(reet)' (no way) from 'strolling' (?)
