Any suggestion of what colour strap (other than black) would suit a mans watch with a black dial.

What options do you have ? Is the guy who is to wear it into psychedelic colours anyway ? I suspect black face probably means black strap if it is to be leather or similar. Or pink maybe. Otherwise any metallic bracelet as others have suggested.

Are you talking about a leather watch strap or metal one?

If you're talking bracelet, then it would have to match the colour of the case. If you want a strap - one of my (many!) watches is a black-faced Citizen with shiny, silvery bezel which came with a mid-brown, crocodile-looking leather strap and looks good.
