One child only policy

I've heard that China has a 'one child only' policy. Does anyone know what this means and how it works? Perhaps the state only supports one child. It's difficult to imagine how it could mean anything else - or does it?.

Quite so, annie. Only time will tell what you eventually enjoy in your retirement.
But none of this will be helped by an ever-ncreasing population (which was the subject of the original question). It will only exacerbate matters because there will be more and more retired people living longer and longer. If there are insufficient funds now for decent pensions there will be even less funds when the pensioner population grows (as it surely will if the general population increases). Methods MUST be found to fund these things without relying on evr increasing numbers.
