Any suggestions for an external aquarium filter?

Hi ABers I have a 90ltr aquarium with an internal Fluval plus4 filter but would like to swap this for an external set up, more appealing on the eye, more filtration power and a tiny bit more space. I don't want to spend a fortune, although yes I understand, you get what you pay for in most circumstances (Fluval G aside!). However I also want a unit that would be suitable for a tank of up to say 300ltrs as Mrs DaGinge says if I get her a bigger house I can have a bigger tank!
All assistance gratefully received! TIA

an external filter going wrong could empty your tank

Thanks Chris, decision made and I've bought an Aquamanta EFX 200 from my local Maidenhead Aquatics (Bold Heath) Widnes. Great advice and support from Andy and Tom and yes Jomifl if it does go wrong it may empty the tank, however if I only looked at it like that I would either be paranoid all the time or not improve / further my hobby. We'll see how it goes anyway! Thanks for your interest guys!
