thank you very much to the people who answered my question. He only gets a pension, but I get all the other things like rent free, poll tax exempt and I get DLA. he only has his pension and claims nothing else.

Irene, you could have posted this as an answer with your original question!

Council Tax (Poll Tax), well you won't get the single adult reduction of 25%, but you can put in a claim based on both of your incomes and that will be assessed. the same goes for your Housing Benefit, they will treat you as a couple so will want to know about joint income/capital etc....

Thanks Irene - do be aware that you can post on your original thread rather than opening up another one, so we can carrying on discussing with you!
When my other half moved in I did lose my single person's council tax discount - but if you are moving two homes into one you ought to save on that anyway. I hope very much that it all works out for you!
sorry sara, both with the same thought!
that's okay boxtops, great minds and all that ;o)

thank you all.......i just dont really know how to do all this (im 71) but im trying! I did phone council and send letters to works and pensions and they sent me a form to fill in. the housing said we are ok no rent or council tax for both of us, so thats a godsend. the pensions people told him they would have to put our pension as one like they do married people and he wasnt pleased.lol. thank you all again

It's been a fair few years since I deat wi State Pensions but the advice given may not be correct. If yous are receiving only State Pension the man would only get extra if you were a dependent (wife or civil partner) or you were looking after his children.and neither seem to be the case here.

For Pension Credit purposes, they would treat yous as a couple if you were married, in a civil partnership or if yous were living together as husband and wife (LTAHAW). It may be for Pension Credits purposes they have assumed yous are LTAHAW but they should look at living arrangements and what the financial arrangements are-who pays what bills etc-before making that decision.
