Lots of people met Savile. Ridiculous point. Even the Royal Marines at Lympstone had a mess hall named after him, thanks to his donation. To blacken Thatcher's name by associating her with a paedophile is disgusting.

If Italy had our voting system they would still have a lot of elections.
We’ve just had yet another reinvented Tory government with no election ….
This endless guff about PR and Italy misses the point. In the UK, if a Cabinet member resigns the government continues with a new Cabinet member. In Italy, should a Cabinet member resign there has to be a general election. It's crazy of course but it's not the fault of PR.

"It's crazy of course but it's not the fault of PR. " - of course it is, they never ever have a majority government. An election ensues because of the breakdown of any agreements they may have had to make to form a government.
Lol, the BA means that the Jag picked up a hitch hiker!

That's why I said, in reply to an earlier question on the same topic:

"Thanks to their ridiculous constitution and electoral arrangements, the average life expectancy of an Italian government is a little over twelve months."

It doesn't make a lot of difference to Italy in this particular instance. The country is due some 200 million euros of "post-Covid support" from the EU and this is under threat of being withheld in the event that the Italian Government "misbehaves" (i.e. implements policies that its electorate expects them to):

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/eus-von-der-leyen-delivers-veiled-warning-italys-right-wing-2022-09-23/

"European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen has warned Italy of consequences should it veer away from democratic principles, issuing a barely veiled threat ahead of Sunday's election that a rightist bloc led by Giorgia Meloni is expected to win."

"If things go in a difficult direction, I've spoken about Hungary and Poland, we have tools," she added.

So for you, Guiseppe, the war is over. Do as we say or we will stop your pocket money.
