Let's be honest, sp... if you found out that someone you knew, was actually a Lord, Lady, Dame, Duke... whatever, you wouldn't see them any differently.
What kind of people would take any notice of a title?

"What kind of people would take any notice of a title? "

People who know their place. :-)
I would turn down any of these signs of oppression sp1814.
Neither would I call Lizzie "ma'am" now any judge 'mi'lord' etc.

old Bess is still queen in Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Solomon Islands, and Tuvalu.
I fear you are under not aware of the sheer servile , obsequious conformity that has been conditioned and inculcated into a huge mass of humanity... never seen the Japs, Chinese, Americans..... grovel in glee outside Buckie Place, Changing of the Guards, etc.
Do you realise how many 'Royal' families exist in Europe and beyond.

I would guesstimate 70- 90% on this forum that use News, R&S,Culture etc., would grovel/curtsy at the ex- Saxe-Coburg and Gotha gaze.
Traditionally, a knighthood given to a serving MP is a sign that his political career is at an end, so very appropriate in this case.
If the Prime Minister wants to signpost his agreement with the ever-increasing redundancy of the honours system by offering yet another reward for failure, then this will do nicely.
15,28 In that case I can not wait for Boris to be given a Knighthood , bring it on.

Not if he takes his seat in the House of Lords.

If I knew someone, I’d probably know of they’d been enobled.

But I get your point. I was once at a party where I got chatting to a very friendly bloke a few years ago. Later on I found out he was Baron Waheed.

And it DID make me think differently - not of him, but of barons in general.

He was so ‘ordinary’ and engaging that it made me rethink previous assumptions.
Thanks for the BA sp

Further to my post at 15:28, the knighthood was also a sign that the recipient was not destined for the Lords.
^¬^ Full Pavlov's engraining, with an avian bent.

Wonder if he realizes ¿
// no, he was useless at his job//

(True story: I knew a nob who was promised, if you do this against your better judgement, your profession, your professional values, then you will get a knighthood.
and he did . and did get one as well

and it is true it is true - when I said well don, he replied
"Thank you for NOT saying, I know what you did to get this."
