Bought a really lovely mirror from a local person on eBay. It was always a pick up only item but was not far so I arranged with the seller to collect it this afternoon.

On arriving he asked me to come in where I had to clamber over kids toys, and food and what looked like dog poo squashed into the carpet.

Took me to the dining room where the mirror was still hanging on the wall, was covered in dust and when he took it off the wall and gave it too me the back had the sort of stringed dust that has been there a while, it even left a shape on the wall where it had been.

I was shocked, he knew I was coming, he could have at least given it a wipe down and or put it in the hall ready so I didn't see the rest if the house, he didn't seem embarrassed at all.

If my house was in that state I would be too ashamed to gave anyone around.

Should have had it ready for you taken off the wall cleaned and presentable as you say some people have no shame no excuse for not being cleaned and ready as he knew you were coming to collect.

I suppose the question that we need answering is, are you happy with the mirror and able to move on from discovering that some people live like pigs.

Aww, sorry to hear that Ducksie, I often find the more affluent the area, the dirtier they are. Strange.
They are, Mamya....that slight bloom takes years off us.... :-)
Mamyalynne Old mirrors are flattering too , aren't they ladies ;-)

Ah the old soft focus trick ;-)
I once, out of sheer curiosity, visited a branch of a firm that specialises in providing goods to the poor who are unable to obtain credit elsewhere and charges them an absolute fortune for the privilege. Their second hand goods were not described as such, they were 'previously owned' or 'previously loved'.
Nothing wrong with buying second hand! Never judge people about the state of their homes, you never know what they are going through my home might be a mess to some people, everyone are different if we are the same it would be boring!! Rant over have a nice easter!
It's good that 'everyone are different', that means I can leave dogshot carpets to others.
People would probably say that my house is a mess because I don't dust or Hoover every day. I'd still have a quick tidy up if someone was coming round. Or have the item ready by the front door for someone to pick up.
I certainly wouldn't have dog poo squashed into the carpet ...
I've always bought second hand...but usually from shops, or eBay. I like it that my things have "history".
Like others, I'd have cleaned the item and had it ready by the door.
Makes me think of some ebayers...selling good quality clothing. But it's wrinkled and looks like it's been at the bottom of a wardrobe for months...why???
