Why do many ABers use obliques instead of quotation marks? I find this a little strange. Is it that I am just not 'down with the kids'. I can get down,I just can't get back up!

Mark twain - first submitter of a type written type script apparently - used not to punctuate his scripts but list them at the end .,:; etc and state 'scatter these to taste' (otherwise called house style)

Great use of quotation marks Mikey!
Thanks Mexy !
Bally heck ! Really ?
And could someone please explain what * round a word means. Is it to show irony?
IMO just to make it stand out as important.
I was thinking who is or are "Ab'ers" but after a quick search and not the full search of "1000 answers" and the "1000 questions" after an "Ab'er" search in the search bar it appears that "Ab'ers" means "Answerbankers"
Hopefully^ that goes into the search so new users who are not savvy with abbreviations "get it"

Not only "Ab'ers"

Looky here and the answer lies within...

Quoting from a source..

//I use these// - I know that form annoys some (sorry)

Quoting what I said...

' I use these' or "I use these"
Question Author
Surely a quote from a source should be single quotation marks.
Maybe it should, I am simply telling you how I do it.

I wasn't aware we had to conform to a rule here - has that changed?

Calm down Mamy.
Bally: vaguely resembling a ball.
The grammar police should hopefully be here shortly to iron this out.
I only do calm Mexi.
If posting an extract from a thread then I use // &//. If posting what has been said then I use " & "
Question Author
If you only do calm, perhaps you should try wild
.
Frighten the horses?
So not " .... but '
See, I was using "
