I thought that there was still some prejudice, hatred and mistreatment, so it's nice to know that's all over and that persecution has officially stopped.

I would say it is true that homosexuals aren't persecuted in the UK. But that's a pretty exceptional situation globally - and, as such, it's worth celebrating the the UK is a tolerant society (well, except for a few whinging oldies). That's why Pride celebrations happen - and why everyone who supports gay rights is encouraged to go, regardless of who they are.
If you don't feel that it should be celebrated... don't go. It's easy.

No it's not that easy....the only way you could avoid such "pageantry" is to turn off your TV's,don't take newspapers and try to avoid living in locations not frequented by these "pageants".
Gays are on a winner, they are generally accepted except for "dinasaurs" like me and all Jourdain is saying is, "shut up and get on with it"...........

When football is on TV....Mrs sqad moans.....when cooking is on Mr sqad moans. Yes the answer is simple...turn off the TV, but rightly or wrongly, probably the latter, we look upon it as an infringement of our personal space.
