We had an unsolicited call today offering a maintenance contract on our solar panels and inverter etc. Special price ends tomorrow so we must sign up today. Allegedly our guarantee from the manufacturers is about to run out, after 7 years. I told them to put it in writing and put the phone down. Their phone no. was 07937933923.
Worth contacting the police?

I am not sure the police would be interested as it may not be illegal - just someone looking to take your business.
Scam ,but the police will not be interested as no crime has been committed.

It's a bog-standard advertising call, which won't interest the police.

However (unless the special price really does end tomorrow, which I really doubt) it's an offence to pressurise potential customers by telling them that they've only got limited time to take up an offer (when, in fact, they tell everyone that).
[Regulation 7, Schedule 1, under Section 8 of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008].
So you could report them to Trading Standards if you felt like it.

Further, if you're registered with TPS, the firm shouldn't have called you and you should report the call to TPS:

Many thanks for the replies.
f.f and Eddie, that is what I thought about the police.
Baldric, what a useful site. The caller got very mixed and largely bad comments, and I added mine.
And f.f. yes, we have the panels but indeed how did they know and how did they get our number?
I shall a] report them to TPS and b] continue to rely on local trades people for any repairs needed after guarantees run out as was always aad vised by Citizens Advice.

Buenchico, I have just seen your reply so thanks to you as well.
I regard the 'we have a special price for you but only for today so rush and buy now' spiel as deeply off putting. always. I did not know such a common thing [at least it used to be] was illegal.
I nearly always report spam calls to the ICO website.
