Party in Ayia Napa

16:37 Mon 24th May 2010 |

Ayia Napa is one of the most prestigious party resorts in Cyprus, which has reinvented itself into a vibrant party capital- rivalling even the most dynamic cities in the world. As well as this, Ayia Napa has retained much of its natural beauty and the endless stretches of golden sand beaches serve as a gorgeous backdrop for the town’s wealth of cultural and historic attractions.

Why choose Ayia Napa?

As one of the stars of the Mediterranean island of Cyrus, this resort has to shine through both the day and night. With its year round warm weather and sandy beaches it is easy to see why the resort is so popular. In summer the bars and clubs boom with international DJs and a buzzing lively atmosphere.

Ayia Napa has its main town beach, which boasts a sweep of clean sand and a variety of water sports, as well as sun loungers and sun umbrellas for hire while relaxing in the heat of the sun with a cocktail or daiquiri in hand. For quieter stretches of beach head out to Cape Greco, located to the east of Ayia Napa.

For a break from sipping Mai Tai’s on the beach head inshore and soak up the calm and peace of the Monastery of Ayia Napa. The best time to visit the 600 year old fig tree and marble fountain is first thing in the morning, when the chances are the hangover from the previous night has kicked in, so a leisurely stroll might just be the perfect cure.

While you’re away from the frenzied beaches you could take the opportunity to browse around the shops. Shopping in Ayia Napa is pure pleasure for locals and holidaymakers alike, with real bargains to be had particularly on designer goods. Top name watches, sunglasses, clothing, cameras and jewellery are available at prices up to 30% cheaper than in the United Kingdom. Shops and boutiques are generally small and friendly, opening until 11pm every night except Sundays. The local handcrafts make for good souvenir shopping, including beautiful embroidered Lefkara lace, original ceramic pottery, artistic silver jewellery, baskets, woven and silk goods and high quality leatherwear. And you will be pleased to know that major credit cards are accepted everywhere, so don’t feel like the pool is the only place you can splash-splash your cash!

Who goes there?

Year round the majority of visitors to Ayia Napa are 18-35 year-old flocking in for the nightlife. Though, more recently holidaying families are more than welcome. Lying in the south-eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus tends to be much warmer in winter than many continental European resorts, making it ideal for a winter sun holiday. The resort overlooks the Mediterranean Sea between the Cypriot city of Larnaca in the west and Cape Greco in the east. The resort spreads out along the coastline with the main beach just to the east of the harbour, which itself provides a great setting for enjoying a drink or two while perusing the passing boats as they come in and out of the harbour at their leisure.

A night on the town:

Ayia Napa is a serious party resort, not to be taken lightly by the casual party goer. The bars and clubs are a fun place to be, especially at the height of the summer season, when you can sit outside catching the rays long into the evening at the same time as enjoying the tipple of your choice- the options are endless. The main square is the hub of the action with numerous drinking dens, karaoke clubs and drink promotions to indulge in till your heart’s content or until you can’t physically take anymore.

Looking for a place that has an addictive character, great music, lively clubs with a top selection of cocktails and so much more, look no further- with an atmosphere second to none, which gets your adrenaline pumping the moment you get off the plane you won’t want to leave this party central.
