London City Breaks

16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

London can be the ideal place for a couple to escape to for the weekend. Steeped in history, London has some of the most well-known tourist attractions in the world, such as Tower Bridge, Big Ben and the London Eye - all iconic images that most people could easily recall.

With a host of luxury five-star hotels, it is easy to find a great place to get away for the weekend, although you are looking at costs of around £300+ for two nights stay.

England's capital city has a wealth of options for holidaymakers and sightseers – and where better to start than the home of the world's most famous woman?

Buckingham Palace is available for tours throughout the summer and although it is unlikely you will actually see the Queen herself, the State Rooms are decorated with many interesting treasures and trinkets.

If the weather is nice, nearby St James Park could be worth stopping for a picnic after your tour of the palace. With many fantastic building dotted around, St. James Park is just a short walk from Westminster.

A short walk – or even shorter tube ride - away is the iconic architecture of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

With a short tube journey you could travel to Covent Garden to see some of the street acts or Oxford Street to do some shopping.

Leicester Square has a lot to offer, with many restaurants scattered around and a host of entertainment venues, such as the Casino at the Empire. For those looking to stay right at the heart of the action then hotels on Leicester Square will certainly be the best option, as you're just metres away from your bed at all times.

The London Eye is a must see for those looking to see London from the skies. Standing at 135 metres tall, this attraction offers panoramic views of the surrounding area – meaning it could be a great way of scoping out your next destinations.

Boat tours also run near the London Eye, these often take you to the next tour stop, but you can see the flood barriers, O2 Arena and Canary Wharf from up close.
