Britons Are Living For Their Holidays

16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

With the credit crunch stretching on and on and the winters getting colder and colder, despite the government telling us we are going through Global Warming, life in the UK can sometimes seem a bit bleak. No wonder, then, that many of us are just counting the days until we have our two weeks in the sun.
According to new research, people in the UK are living for their holidays every year. Apparently more than one in 6 of us conduct their business in such a manner, with 62 per cent using savings to pay for their trip.

The study also found that a further 21 per cent of people usually start planning their next holiday the moment they return from their last one. They start saving again as soon as they have come back in order to make next year’s experience that little bit better.

The two week break has become an essential respite in our working year. Unfortunately the rising cost of living and higher fuel prices for flights means that every year we may be paying a little bit more for our much needed rest and rehabilitation time. For many people, especially those with children, one holiday is all they can afford each year and so the build up is even greater.

Despite all this, though, many of us continue to work even whilst out of the country with our families. Many people are taking laptops, palm tops and mobile phones away with us. It seems we just cannot bear the thought that the office may survive without us. A leading psychologist recently told the Telegraph that people should avoid taking their laptop computers on holiday with them, in order to avoid resentment from partners and reduce stress.
