Activity Holidays in the Lake District

Attractions in the Lake District:

There are two venues for skiing on real snow for those looking for outdoor fun, as well as three paintballing centres and numerous fells for walking and trekking with rivers and lakes for sailing, kayaking and fishing. Even if the weather isn’t great for outdoor pursuits, there are also indoor climbing walls at Keswick and Cockermouth. At the end of an eventful day you can relax and soak up the local atmosphere at one of the various pubs and restaurants, which pride of catering for every taste with many serving local specialities such as Rum Nicky, a delicious old fashioned winter warmer fruity pudding.

Nominated the walker’s favourite destination, the Lake District is a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you’re planning a classic mountain walk or an invigorating high-level climb you will definitely find it here. Popular walking destinations include Scafell Pike, Sca Fell, Helvellyn and Skiddaw, but there is much more to the Lakes District than these renowned destinations, so try out less obvious areas.

If you want a more secluded landscape where you can get away from the busy centre of the district then chose an area rarely visited by walkers, where you can witness the most undisturbed natural wildlife and scenery. You can plan a route by yourself or ask the experts who can advise you the best isolated routes available, as always sticking to the paths are advisable to prevent getting lost or missing out on some spectacular views.

As mentioned briefly above you can enjoy real snow in two venues, the first being Raise Cumbria, where you can enjoy skiing or snowboarding for several months of the year. The downside is that this venue isn’t really well suited to beginners and involves long walks, and you have to be a member of the Lake District Ski Club to use the facilities, although membership is very reasonably priced.

The second of the two venues is based at Yad Moss Cumbria, which has recently been upgraded with the longest lift in England and a brand new day lodge. There is a variety of wide slopes and various different types of terrain, providing the perfect opportunity for both skiers and snowboarders.

Enjoying the Lake District:

The Lake District also offers one of the highest numbers of local pubs selling traditional Jennings Bitter, which is brewed locally in Cockermouth. There is also a brewery tour that is well worth a visit that takes you round the local breweries where you get to taste more of the local bitters.
