Has any A.B.ers out there ever been involved in a disagreement with the passenger in front over the tilting or reclining of the seat at an inappropriate time and if so what was the problem and how was it resolved ?

These have caused a few rows in the States, apparently http://www.gadgetduck.com/goods/kneedefender.html

What time do you call inappropriate?
Most people I know wouldn't recline at all but the only inappropriate time I can think of would be during the inflight meal.
I would lean forward and ask them politely to change it while I eat.
Is this based on a personal experience?
Yes. The man who sucked Fergie's toes was sat in front of me years ago. The cabin staff were so in awe of him they didn't even make him have seat back upright for take off. I had to eat my meal looking at his balding sweaty head.
No matter what or who he was Grass, I would have asked in a polite way to up-right his seat.
grasscarp, why didn't you ask him to do it?
I don't know :0(

I think recliming seats are a royal pain!

The solution would be - everyone reclines, or no-one reclines, which of course is not actually a solution at all.

I try not to recline - mindful of the inconvenience to the passenger behind me, and then I put up with the reclining of the passenger in front, who doesn't share my sense of community spirit!

One thing they could enforce is a dress code on planes - no wife-beater vests allowed - oh and no B.O. as well, although they usually come as a passage, with obesity thrown in as a freebie!

Fat chance!
Reclining seats are essential on long haul flights. People can`t sit bolt upright for 12 hours.

Comedy gold!

Please carry that man shoulder-high from the room!
They'd have to sit bolt upright if they sat in front of me - my knees are jammed in because my legs are longer than average

I agree - I make at least two long-haul flights a year, and am grateful of the recline facility - but it is far from ideal even so.
I've never reclined my seat on short haul flights. The longer haul flights I've taken the planes have always been bigger so its never been a problem.
once had a devil child kicking on back of seat on long haul from LA..parents not bothered..asked the cabin crew in a loud voice to find me another seat or do something about the "vibration" on my back...sorted !! ...I always mention to fellow" behind me" passenger that I am about to recline..just incase there is a full glass of something on their table..only manners !
Two members of our tour group round China sat i front me and reclined their seats immediately, to the extent that I was unable to eat a meal. On the next flight, I crossed my leg stop them, they were not pleased but it's a tactic I've used successfully since. Failing that, I feel the need to constantly leave my seat by grabbing the seat in front hard, I also adjust the air flow onto the recliner. There's no need to recline on short haul and on long haul seats should be upright during meal service.
